Four Indian startups have made it to Y Combinator’s (YC) 2019 winter batch of startups. Y Combinator is an American seed accelerator, which accelerates two startup batches in a year and invests $150K in selected startups. 

The four Indian startups selected in the 2019 winter batch are MyScoot, Skill-lync, Trexo Robotics and Mudrex Inc. 

Started in 2005 by Paul Graham, Jessica Livingston, Trevor Blackwell and Robert Tappan Morris, YC has funded over 1.9K startups with a portfolio of startups such as Airbnb, Dropbox, Quora and Reddit. Combined valuation of YC-funded startups has reached over $100 Bn.

Usually a large number of companies apply to Y Combinator and only a handful are selected.  Last year, 132 startups hailing from 19 countries pitched to Y Combinator. 2019’s winter batch of Y combinator has 200 startups. As compared to last year, that’s a 51% increase batch-over-batch.

MyScoot

Gurugram-based startup is an event marketplace for meeting new people at house parties. Cofounded by Somvir Yadav, Suyash Sinha, and Sidharth Rawat, MyScoot helps people discover house parties or host them. For example, a person can earn money for dinner parties, brunches, or evening gatherings. The platform has a five-step verification process to vet users and ensure a safe environment. Service is available in four cities across India and has a growing community of 150 hosts.  

Skill-lync

Chennai-based edtech startup was founded by Suryanarayanan Paneerselvam in 2015. The platform offers online courses for mechanical engineering students at the rate of $250/course and claims that students can get a better job after just four courses. The students get to learn skills that are not taught in college but are required to help them accelerate their careers. In April, Skill-lync will launch a masters course in hybrid electric vehicle design and analysis. This course will be a guaranteed course and students who don’t get a job will get a full refund.

Trexo Robotics

Ontario-based startup was started by two Indian founders, Manmeet Maggu and Rahul Udasi in 2016, Trexo builds wearable robots that help children with cerebral palsy walk. The startup is aimed at enabling mobility for everyone starting with children. Company’s founder Manmeet Maggu’s nephew is a patient of cerebral palsy and that’s where the need for the startup came. Trexo’s first product is limited to home use, and kids have started using it to walk. Product testing has being started all around North America, with more than 65 families already benefiting from product.

Mudrex Inc.

Bengaluru-based blockchain startup was cofounded by Rohit Goyal, Edul Patel, Prince Arora, Alankar Saxena, and Snehil Buxy in 2018.  The startup enables traders to write their trading logic with the help of flow chart inspired tool, use historical or live data to test their trading rules, and use their live strategies on multiple exchanges to automatically trade. Anyone can get started with automated trading using Mudrex at zero expense. Before Mudrex, the cofounders have worked with companies like Housing.com, Niffler and PaxPlay.

Till date, Y Combinator has invested in multiple Indian startups including,  ClearTax, RazorPay, Meesho, Observe.AI, Supr Daily, WheelStart, Wifi Dabba, Drivezy, CureSkin, Fastpad, LotusPay, Innov8, Kisan Network,  Vanido, Dost Education, DocTalk, Piggy, Bulk MRO Industrial Supply, GoLorry, RedCarpetUp, Cashfree, Playment, Groww, Credy, Leena AI, Kyte.ai, Ziffy Homes and Prodigal Technologies.
