Just a month after strengthening its board with the appointment of four senior industry executives, ecommerce major Meesho has now roped in former Meta executive Mohit Rajani as its chief product officer.

This comes on the back of Meesho looking to scale up its customer base in the ecommerce space.

In his new role, Rajani will lead the Bengaluru-based company’s product organisation, overseeing the product management, design and analytics teams, Meesho said in a statement.

Previously, Rajani held leadership roles at several global technology companies, including Meta, Google, Carta and Instagram.

At Meta, he led messenger’s monetisation initiative. Besides, being a part of the core team at Instagram, he launched ads and business products, expanding the platform to over one Mn advertisers.

Most recently, Rajani managed a diverse product portfolio at Carta, spearheading initiatives, including international expansion and new Generative AI-enabled products, the statement added.

“I have long admired Meesho’s transformative impact on ecommerce in India. The company’s mission to democratise internet commerce resonates deeply with my passion for creating meaningful products,” Rajani said.

“Rajani’s leadership will be instrumental in driving product innovation, enhancing customer experience and building a world class product organisation as we continue to scale our platform,” Meesho founder and CEO Vidit Aatrey said.

Founded in 2015 by Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, Meesho claims to have over 15 Lakh sellers on its ecommerce platform from across India with more than 140 Mn annual transacting users. So far, it has raised over $1.08 Bn.

Last month, the company onboarded four industry veterans to its board, including former JP Morgan chairman Kalpana Morparia for South and South East Asia, Jubilant Bhartia Group’s founder and co chairman Hari S Bhartia, Ema Unlimited’s founder and CEO Surojit Chatterjee and PhonePe’s non executive chairman of the board Rohit Bhagat.

Meesho’s latest leadership exit was in March, by Harsh Chaudhary, CXO of monetisation after a two-year stint with the company.

Last year, Utkrishta Kumar, chief experience officer at Meesho’s business division, stepped down from his role after a five-year tenure. Shortly after that, Meesho’s chief product officer Kirti Varun Avasarala also resigned following a four-year tenure.

Despite the pressures on its leadership roles, the ecommerce unicorn reported an operating revenue of INR 5,735 Cr in FY23, a 77% increase over INR 3,232 Cr in the previous fiscal year.

Fashnear Technologies, the parent entity of Meesho, reported a net loss of INR 1,675 Cr in FY23, a 48% drop from INR 3,248 Cr in the previous year.
