Kolkata-based vernacular dating app flutrr has rolled out a conversational AI chat feature, designed to assist users who struggle to initiate or sustain conversations.

According to the company, the AI tool laden with real time sentiment analysis and response suggestions, acts as a virtual guide for more engaging and meaningful interactions.

“Understanding that many of our users from tier II and III cities might feel hesitant in cross-gender communications, our conversational AI chat feature acts as a facilitator,” said Anirban Banerjee, cofounder and CMO of flutrr.

The startup claims to be also implementing an AI-powered intelligent pricing model which analyses user behaviour to offer personalised pricing for microtransactions.

Additionally, in September, it launched flutrr Tunes, which lets users compose their own songs using AI tools and send them to impress someone special.

Founded in 2021 by the father-son duo Kaushik and Anirban Banerjee, flutrr positions itself as India’s first regional language dating app, enabling users to communicate in their preferred language.

The platform tackles common challenges in online dating, including gender imbalance and user security, with proprietary safety technology designed to prioritise women’s protection.

However, the platform’s unique value proposition lies in serving women from tier II and III towns and cities. The founders, with their app, claim to provide a safe alternative to both casual dating and arranged marriages.

The app supports English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, and is looking to add Northeastern languages such as Garo, Khasi, and Assamese. The founders claim to have over 5 Lakh monthly active users (MAU) on the dating app and more than 9 Lakh app downloads.

fluttr’s turnover jumped to INR 2.5 Cr in the financial year 2023-24 (FY24) from INR 99 Lakh in FY23 and INR 17 Lakh in FY22.

Meanwhile, in October, dating platform flutrr announced plans to raise INR 3.75 Cr in a funding round from Zee Akaash News, a wholly owned subsidiary of the media conglomerate.

In a with the BSE, Zee Media disclosed that it has signed an agreement to invest the amount by subscribing to equity shares and convertible warrants of flutrr.

Last year, flutrr raised INR 4 Cr from The Chennai Angels, Times of India, and others. The company topped it up with another undisclosed fundraise from actress Huma Qureshi in July this year.

flutrr competes with platforms like Bumble and Tinder in the dating app market.
