[Update] So this was an April Fool’s prank after all as expected. This was the update posted today on Flipkart’s Facebook handle:

“We introduced our Delivery of Cash (DoC) service yesterday and we’re excited to know what you think! The first 1000 users who register will get a month’s free use of our DoC service*! Click here to avail the offer: http://fkrt.it/DOC-register

The link leads to an ebook titled “A Fool and His Money”, a nice pun on words. Not many people really fell for this prank though.

Today Flipkart came out with an interesting update on its social profiles regarding a new Delivery of Cash (DOC) service.

“Two years after the launch of its era-changing Cash on Delivery option, Flipkart gears up to initiate its one-of-a-kind Delivery of Cash service. You no longer have to visit ATMs for that much needed money! Just go online or call our ever-ready personnel to get quick cash delivered home. And pay us with a simple swipe of your card!”

This was the info that has been shared so far.

It seems like an interesting idea, but will highly depend on how fast Flipkart can deliver. The most common possible use case for such a service would be for people to get cash delivered in cases of emergency. And going by the current delivery schedule of Flipkart, it could be hours if not a day before it actually gets delivered.

The only other good use i could think of this would be to be able to pay Flipkart’s COD with my card by swiping it on the spot. That should cater to a lot of people who are insecure about using their credit cards online.

With tomorrow being April 1st, many are touting it to be an April Fool’s joke. Well you can’t really blame them, it does seem like quite a random service.

Anyways we’ll find out soon whether this actually turns out to be real. Till then i’d take this news with a grain of salt.

Watch this post for more updates on this developing story. Meanwhile do tell us what do you think about DOC? Do you think its really a joke?
