Ahead of the start of its festive season sale, The Big Billion Days 2023, Indian ecommerce major Flipkart on Wednesday (October 4) launched a ChatGPT-powered shopping assistant ‘Flippi’.
Besides, the Walmart-owned company also launched video-based browse mode ‘Vibes’ as part of its ‘SwipeScreen’ experience. Flipkart users can chat with Flippi by swiping left on the homepage, while they can browse products in video mode by swiping right.
In a statement, Flipkart said it aims to offer personalised and simplified user experience with the new features.
Flippi, which uses generative AI, is targeted at helping buyers who find it challenging to make a decision. Flippi will act as an expert to guide such users on the product that suits their needs best. Flippi is currently available only in English language, but the company plans to launch it in other languages soon along with voice support, making it accessible to a broader range of users.
On the other hand, Vibes helps buyers with video of products, thereby providing the traditional window-shopping experience.
Flipkart said video engagement helps customers make shopping decisions more seamlessly. Through Vibes, the ecommerce major aims to enable consumers to enjoy product discovery in an engaging and fun way by watching thousands of short videos.
With generative AI capturing the attention of companies and users alike, Flipkart and its rival Amazon are launching new features using the technology for their users as well as sellers ahead of the start of their festive season sales.
Last month, Flipkart launched an AI-powered catalogue designer to help sellers create a convincing catalogue of their products, while Amazon launched a set of generative AI tools to help sellers create better product descriptions, titles and listing details.
Flipkart’s The Big Billion Days will commence on October 8 and is scheduled to run till October 15. While Amazon earlier said its ‘Great Indian Festival’ will start on October 10, it rejigged the date to match that of Flipkart.
Meanwhile, Meesho’s mega-blockbuster sale is scheduled to go live on October 6.
