In preparation for the upcoming festive season sales, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has introduced an incentive program, offering substantial bonuses of up to INR 35 lakh per week to buyer-side platforms that successfully attain specified order volume targets.

Furthermore, ONDC has increased the weekly limit on discounts available to consumers from 2 to 5 per week, Moneycontrol reported.

The government-backed network has introduced a tiered bonus system under which it will offer the INR 35 Lakh amount to consumer-facing applications that can achieve the milestone of 1,00,000 orders per week. The incentive program, designed in a graded manner, starts at INR 5 Lakh for platforms that can secure 50,000 orders weekly.

ONDC will also offer a reimbursement of INR 1,000 per order for new buyers to live B2B seller apps. This amount will be passed on to sellers for the first order made by a new or unique buyer, with a minimum order value of INR 5,000 (including shipping). Sellers can claim this incentive for up to 50 new buyers per month.

The government-supported e-commerce network has also implemented a tiered incentive system for seller-side applications. Under this, platforms will earn varying rewards for onboarding sellers based on their location – up to INR 6,000 in metros, up to INR 7,500 in tier-2, 3 cities, and INR 5,000 in all other cities, provided they offer more than 5,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) in the grocery category.

In order to enhance its logistics operations, ONDC will also provide INR 15 per delivery as an incentive to logistics service providers, with a cap at 1,00,000 deliveries.

The new measures are aimed at boosting engagement and operational efficiency within the ONDC network ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Government-backed ONDC aims to curb the dominance of major players like Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, and Zomato in ecommerce and food delivery sectors.

Recently, ONDC launched the ‘ONDC Network Gift Card’ for corporate gifting and employee engagement. The gift card allows card holders to shop using any ONDC-enabled buyer application.

Earlier, Inc42 reported that ONDC will soon launch an array of financial services, including personal and SMB loans, insurance (car, health and marine), and mutual funds, on the network.
