Exclusive: Shaadi.com Enters Spiritual Tech Segment By Launching AstroChat

Shaadi.com parent People Group has forayed into the spiritual tech segment with the launch of astrology platform, AstroChat.

Besides the website, the company has also launched an app for AstroChat. As per the app available on Google PlayStore, it was launched in November last year.

AstroChat offers services like astrologer consultation, horoscope reading, kundali reading and matching, and panchang information. It claims to have onboarded more than 250 verified astrologers and catered to more than 1 Lakh customers since its inception in November 2024. 

The platform offers free astrologer consultation for the first two minutes. Post it, users can continue to avail these services after recharging their app wallet.

“We connect you with some of the finest astrologers in India and beyond, offering insights into your life through free chats, online consultations, and horoscope predictions. Whether you’re curious about love, career, health, or any other aspect of life, our expert astrologers are here to guide you,” reads a message on AstroChat’s website.

Queries sent to People Group founder and CEO Anupam Mittal on the development didn’t elicit any response till the time of publishing this story. 

Headquartered in Mumbai, it also operates in the UK, the UAE, Canada, and the US. It counts WestBridge, InnoVen Capital, Saama Capital, Intel Capital, among its investors. 

The Spiritual Tech Boom 

The Indian startup ecosystem is as diverse as this nation is. While the ecosystem is witnessing the emergence of several AI startups, spiritual tech is equally booming and getting traction from investors. 

The Indian spiritual and religious market was valued at $58.6 Bn in 2024 and is growing at a CAGR of 10%. It is expected to cross the $150 Bn mark by 2034. 

With the launch of AstroChat, the People Group is eyeing a pie of this rapidly growing market. Besides, the new platform’s kundali reading and matching service is adjacent to its matrimony business and can help the company shore up its top line.

However, it will have to compete with the likes of Astrotalk, InstaAstro, AstroSure and Astroyogi in the crowded market.

India’s overall spiritual tech market also houses startups like VAMA, DevDham, Utsav App, Temple Connect, among others, which offer services like e-darshan, e-pooja and more. 

These startups are also getting a lot of traction from investors. Earlier this month, Sri Mandir parent AppsForBharat bagged INR 175 Cr ($20 Mn) in its Series C funding round led by Susquehanna Asia VC to expand its operations across more than 20 temple towns, such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Ujjain, and Haridwar. 

Utsav app, which lets users book pujas, access e-prasad delivery and consulting services, recently bagged INR 6.35 Cr in a funding round led by Equanimity Investments.
