In a bizarre incident, a disgruntled Flipkart employee decamped with INR 21 Lakh after executing a robbery at the ecommerce giant’s office in Sonipat.

According to India Today, the accused, identified as Sumit, planned the heist after being fired from the company a month ago. The accused, along with two others, pulled off the robbery on October 16 at the business premises using a toy gun.

As per the report, the local police (Gohana) have arrested two accused, including Sumit, while the hunt for the third accused is still on.

Elaborating on the incident, Gohana deputy commissioner of police Bharti Dabas told India Today that the main accused was ‘well aware’ of the increased cash flow at the Sonipat office on account of Diwali. After being fired, Sumit, along with accomplices Anil Tiger and Sandeep, plotted and exploited this knowledge to commit the heist.

Eventually, the trio landed on the Flipkart premises last month and used a toy pistol to intimidate the employees present on the spot and then decamped with the cash. Meanwhile, further probe into the case is underway.

However, so far, cops have only been able to recover INR 6.3 Lakh, a car, an axe and the toy gun in question from the accused. Meanwhile, searches are on for the third accused, Sandeep.

The development comes amid a spurt in such incidents, involving the employees of ecommerce marketplaces. Earlier this week, armed masked miscreants targetted a Flipkart godown in Odisha’s Cuttack and ran away with lakhs of rupees.

In September, Delhi Police chargesheeted 11 persons, including an ecommerce delivery executive, in connection with a daylight heist inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel in June 2023. The accused allegedly made off with INR 25 Lakh but were eventually arrested by sleuths.

In May this year, four employees of an ecommerce firm were arrested for allegedly stealing mobile phones worth INR 10 Lakh from the company’s warehouse in Delhi’s Bindapur area.
