Bengaluru-based on-demand delivery startup Dunzo has launched Checkout with Dunzo, a new B2B logistics service for retailers and small business owners. The company said that this service opens up the possibility to tie-up with any store which has an online presence through its website or app.

Founded in 2015 by Ankur Aggarwal, Dalvir Suri, Mukund Jha, and Kabeer Biswas, Dunzo is an AI-driven chat-based hyperlocal services app which enables users to create to-do lists and collaborate with partners (vendors) to get them done. Till date, the company has raised $30.3 Mn funding, with latest investments coming in from Deep Kalra, Google and Blume Ventures.

In the last 18 months, Dunzo claims to have grown 30x and is expecting to do upwards of 2Mn orders per month by June’19. It claims that Dunzo has a repeat user rate of 80% and a transaction frequency of 5 orders per month per user. The company aims to get micro-market profitable at an order level in the next quarter.

What Is Checkout With Dunzo?

‘Checkout with Dunzo’ is similar to a payment option, letting users opt for faster delivery through a Dunzo partner, at the time of checkout. Powered by Dunzo’s technology, to facilitate its ecommerce transactions, this feature is being piloted with the confectionary chain, CakeZone in Bengaluru and will soon expand to other retailers and locations.

Kabeer Biswas, CEO and cofounder, Dunzo said, “Checkout with Dunzo is a considerable step in that direction – enabling faster deliveries for users, building a more efficient and democratic omnichannel business for merchants and creating more flexible earning opportunities for partners.”

Players Of Hyperlocal Delivery In India

The consumer services segment is again filled with the hyperlocal players which are claiming to ensure there is nothing a consumer can do with a tap on the phone. Today, food, medicines, grocery, salon services, carpenters, musicians, teachers, gifts and so much more is available for a user to choose and get delivered in the comfort of their own homes or offices.

A report titled “India Hyperlocal Market Outlook to 2020 – Driven by Rising Startups Firms and Fluctuating Investments” by market research firm Ken Research, has predicted that the Indian hyperlocal market will grow to reach over $317.4 Mn (INR 2,306 Cr) by 2020.

Swiggy forayed into the on-demand hyperlocal space with the launch of ‘Swiggy Stores’ integrated within the app. The company has launched a pilot project of delivery of groceries across Bengaluru and Gurugram. Many other players such as DoneThing, Haptik, HelpChat, Hike-owned personal assistant bot Natasha are also looking to strengthen their presence in the hyperlocal space.

It is to be noted that even though Dunzo’s everything-delivery is a unique proposition in the industry as of now, the entry of Swiggy in the hyperlocal space of groceries may increase pressure on the company.

Dunzo was part of the 2018 edition of the coveted list of India’s most innovative startups — 42Next by Inc42.
