From delivery fresh pizzas under 30-minutes to bringing essentials for people limited to their homes during the lockdown, Jubilant Foodworks’ food chain Domino’s has announced the launch of Domino’s Essentials.

In partnership with packaged consumer goods major ITC Foods, the delivery infrastructure of Jubilant FoodWorks arm will be leveraged to help customers order everyday grocery essentials offered by ITC Foods. The service initially began with Bengaluru, followed by Noida, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad.

To place orders, consumers can use the Domino’s app to order packs of flour, spices and other staples. However, the current partnership will see the two come together to ensure the delivery of the most essential food items.

“We will use the Domino’s supply chain and delivery network to deliver essential goods such as Aashirvaad Atta, spices etc. at people’s doorstep. Customers can order using the Domino’s App and their order will be delivered safely and hygienically using Zero Contact Delivery,” Pratik Pota, chief executive officer and whole-time director, Jubilant FoodWorks said.

ITC said that it has redoubled efforts to expand the availability of food products across multiple trade channels. The feature rolled out on the Domino’s delivery app allows users to use digital payment mode to complete the order. The pizza giant also said its delivery executives will follow zero contact delivery to fulfil the order.

“This valuable partnership with Domino’s during this pandemic will enable us to fulfil the rising demand for food products like Aashirvaad Atta and spices. I am sure consumers in Bengaluru and progressively other cities will greatly benefit from this collaboration by receiving essential food items at their doorstep during this time of being confined at homes,” said Hemant Malik, divisional chief executive, foods division, ITC Ltd.

Besides, Bengaluru-based BigBasket and Gurugram-based Grofers, ecommerce players such as Flipkart and Amazon are currently strengthening their position, some companies like Shopclues are now making an entry in this segment. Other startups which recently have forayed in the grocery delivery segment include social commerce player Meesho and UPI payments player BharatPe. Also, B2B grocery delivery platform Ninjacart has also started to deliver groceries to societies and apartment communities.

Food delivery major Swiggy has expanded grocery delivery to most of the cities where it has operations for food delivery. To procure products, Swiggy has partnered with retail grocery stores across the country. In Delhi NCR, the company is delivering grocery items from supermarket stores such as Vishal Mega Mart. As of now, the company is only allowing the delivery of 12 Kg of products per order to prevent hoarding of essentials like groceries. Swiggy has also partnered with FMCG player Marico to deliver the Saffola range of products.

Swiggy’s food delivery rival Zomato has launched Zomato Market service to deliver essential items amid lockdown. Besides solving the delivery woes, the entry of Swiggy and Zomato in the grocery delivery segment will also provide employment opportunities to the employees as the number of food orders have dropped significantly.
