Homegrown electronics maker Dixon Technologies’ wholly-owned subsidiary Padget Electronics has signed a pact with Asus to manufacture notebooks for the Taiwanese tech major under the production-linked incentive 2.0 scheme.
Asus joins HP, Lenovo and Acer in partnering with Dixon for local laptop production.
Approved in May last year, the PLI scheme 2.0 aimed at boosting the local manufacturing of IT hardware offers incentives to make laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers and ultra small form factors in India.
As per ET’s report, Dixon will undertake production through its subsidiary Padget Electronics at an upcoming facility in Chennai with a capacity of 2 Mn laptops a year.
“We are delighted and encouraged by the trust they have bestowed on Dixon for this collaboration. Asus has established a strong and trusted foothold worldwide, thanks to its advanced technology and we see them as our ideal long-term strategic partner who shares our core values,” Atul Lall, vice chairman and managing director at Dixon was quoted as saying in the report.
This development comes at a time when global tech companies that sell electronic gadgets such as laptops and tablets are scrambling to build their manufacturing units in India.
Only a few days ago, Dixon’s subsidiary Padget Electronics inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with HP India to manufacture personal computers (PCs) and laptops.
Prior to that, Google also tied up with Dixon Technologies to manufacture the big tech major’s flagship Pixel 8 smartphones in India.
Meanwhile, consumer electronics startup Indkal Technologies entered into a trademark licensing agreement with Acer Inc, in July, to design, manufacture and distribute smartphones for the Taiwanese hardware company.
