A lot of HDFC customers could not access the bank’s mobile app and online banking since 10 AM Monday
The private sector bank has 4.5 Cr customers, many of whom use online banking services
Our experts are working on it on top priority, and we’re confident we’ll be able to restore services shortly, HDFC tweeted
HDFC Bank customers could not access the bank’s mobile app and online banking for the second day due to technical glitch. The services were not available for thousands of customers since 10 AM on Monday (December 2).
“Due to a technical glitch, some of our customers have been having trouble logging into our net banking and MobileBanking App. Our experts are working on it on top priority, and we’re confident we’ll be able to restore services shortly. While we deeply regret the inconvenience caused, there’s no cause for undue concern,” HDFC Bank tweeted.
December 2, being the first working day of the month, saw many customers receiving their salaries. HDFC online banking site read, “Dear User, The NetBanking system is busy processing heavy load from currently logged in customers, request to try after some time. Thank you for your cooperation”. Users couldn’t make monthly payments on time because of the snag.
Customers took to social media to express their angst. A customer tweeted, “What has happened to your banking experience? When it comes down to taking charges from your customer you all are very prompt, but what happens to you when you need to provide service.” Another customer tweeted, “Wow so the netbanking and mobile app both are down for entire day. What a shame! I can’t pay my bills. Hope tomorrow they don’t come out and say that their production server is wiped out and they don’t know who has how much money in the account !”
HDFC Bank has 4.5 Cr customers and the majority of them use online banking services. Whenever the customers logged in, the page said, “The NetBanking system is busy processing heavy load from currently logged in customers, request to try after some time.”
The bank’s mobile app had a similar blackout last year. The reason, as per media reports, was the inability of the app’s new version to take the end of the month payday traffic.
Some of the users also speculated a hack and that the bank was struggling to fix it. The HDFC site was reportedly hacked in 2011 as well and the company had taken more than ten days to respond to queries on what went wrong. A user tweeted, “trying to login to NetBanking since morning and it keeps showing this message… Guys we’re in 2019 !! No problem can last so long.. Unless there’s some issue which you guys are not disclosing !!.”
