The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), announced on Wednesday, that it will work with ecommerce giant Amazon to design a special export module to enable lakhs of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to export their products in a simplified manner.

The module will have a detailed step-by-step guide for MSMEs to start exporting using ecommerce.

The special export module comes as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CII and Amazon India to bring the benefits of ecommerce to 10 states across India, at the 17th Global SME Business Summit, a virtual event organised live from New Delhi on December 9-10, 2020.

“The problem is that the contribution of rural and tribal districts is almost negligible. This is the time for the MSME ministry and industry to concentrate more on rural, agriculture, tribal districts and 115 aspirant districts,” the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said at the event.

Amazon India and CCI will also conduct training and workshops to help MSMEs sell their wares online.

“We remain committed to enabling and equipping MSMEs across India with the right knowledge, tools and technology to build and scale their business in India and globally,” said Amit Agarwal, Senior VP and Country Head, Amazon India.

“The pandemic has made apparent the role that technology will play through meaningful interventions. Given the rapid shift towards adoption of digital solutions, it is necessary for MSMEs to receive the information and support that will aid in their digital transformation,” said CII Director-General Chandrajit Banerjee.

In June this year, Amazon India had launched its ‘MSME Accelerate’ programme to help startups kick start their operations as offices reopened across the country.

The MSME Accelerate section featured selections, deals, discounts and savings to promote products from India’s MSMEs. Amazon had claimed that the online event, which ran till June 20, featured products from over 3.7 Lakh sellers registered on the online marketplace.
