The CAIT alleges that the chemicals used to make the IEDs used in the Pulwama attack were sourced through Amazon
The trade body’s national president says a man in Indore died by suicide after consuming poison bought on Amazon
Madhya Pradesh police have registered a case against Amazon Seller Services executives after the sale of cannabis worth over INR 1.1 Cr on the platform.
After news of peddlers selling marijuana on the platform, Amazon faces fresh allegations as the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) accuses the company of selling the chemicals used for making the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) used in the 2019 Pulwama attack on a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.
Today, the CAIT held a protest in more than 1200 cities in 500 districts across the country demanding that the business model of Amazon and other ecommerce companies should be investigated. It further demanded that Amazon officials should be arrested and charged with sedition cases for facilitating the sale of chemicals that were used in the attack.
The trade body’s national president BC Bhartia said that a person from Indore in Madhya Pradesh has registered a complaint against Amazon alleging that the man’s son died by suicide after ordering poison from the platform.
“We shall await the response of the government for a couple of days and if nothing happens, we may go for a relay hunger strike across the country for one week and protest processions in markets and if need be, can also give a call of Bharat Vyapar Bandh beside going to Court of law,” said Praveen Khandelwal, secretary general of CAIT.
Earlier this week, the Madhya Pradesh Police had registered a case against Amazon executives under Section 38 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act. Speaking to Inc42, Manoj Kumar Singh, the Superintendent of Police of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh, said that the case has been registered against the board of directors of Amazon Seller Service Pvt Ltd, an Amazon India subsidiary.
The Vishakapatnman Police had arrested four people in relation to the same case, including three delivery executives. A press note from Bhind Police revealed that Cheepurupalli Venkateswara Rao, Jeeru Kumar Swamy, Bijjam Krishna Raju, and Chilakapati Srinivasa Rao have been arrested regarding the matter.
The trade body has made these grievous allegations against Amazon just days after President Ram Nath Kovind posthumously conferred the Kirti Chakra to Jammu and Kashmir Head Constable Abdul Rashi Kalas, who died fighting bravely during the Pulwama attack.
We were awaiting Amazon’s replies regarding the allegations at the time of publication.
