[CapitalX By Inc42] Ready To Become A VC? Introductory Cohort Made More Affordable

At the beginning of November, we announced the launch of Inc42’s second cohort-based programme – CapitalX. Our mission with the programme is to enable a new generation of investors to build VC funds that will support innovative companies originating in India. 

The Indian startup ecosystem is the third largest in the world. With more than 84,000 registered startups and 108+ Unicorns, India is on track to become the top global hub for entrepreneurship in the decades to come. We want to accelerate this growth story by supporting new investors through our educational programmes. 

Since its launch, CapitalX has received interest from more than 600 individuals coming from diverse backgrounds like Family Offices, Corporate Leaders, Serial Entrepreneurs, Aspiring VCs, Angel Investors and Finance executives, among others. 

Having spoken to more than 300 interested candidates over calls, one feedback we kept hearing over and over – the programme fee for the first cohort is a bit steep.

The market has given us clear indicators that we may have overpriced the introductory cohort. After consulting with our Mentors & Speakers, and in the interest of transparency, we have decided to reduce the CapitalX programme fee from INR 4,74,999 to INR 2,99,999 (inclusive of GST).

Despite the fact that half of our cohort is already full and we have a pipeline of demo calls scheduled, we’re taking this decision to ensure affordability and accessibility for more candidates.  

We still believe that the value of CapitalX is at least 10 times the program fees (more on this later), but we don’t want to restrict access to candidates who would benefit from the program but are unable to afford the previous program fee of INR 474,999.

We want to express our gratitude to the confirmed participants of CapitalX who believed in the vision of the program. We will be refunding them the excess amount on top of the new program fees.

We have also extended the application deadline for CapitalX to December 18, 2022. If you were unable to apply earlier due to affordability, you now have the opportunity to do so.

How To Assess The Actual $$ Value Of CapitalX?

CapitalX is India’s first & only live programme where participants can master the entire VC journey by learning from the top 1% investors of India who have collectively invested billions of dollars in the Indian startup ecosystem. 

Let’s try to understand the actual $$ value of CapitalX with an example:

Assume, after graduating from the CapitalX programme, you end up building a micro VC fund of $5 Mn (INR 40 Cr+). Considering the standard 2% management fee per annum, you’ll receive INR 80 Lakh+ every year for your services.

CapitalX programme fee of INR 2,99,999 is only 3.75% of your first year’s management fee.

Final Thoughts

We set out to build India’s first live educational program that teaches the entire venture capital journey in a structured curriculum. Our estimation of the program fee may have been off, but that is also a consequence of creating a new path where there is no one to benchmark against.
