Online astrology platform Astrotalk has set the ball rolling to strengthen the marketing efforts of its new venture in the spiritual ecommerce space.

The Delhi NCR-based startup, which is also eyeing expansion of its global footprint and also bucking the trend to add more staff, is looking for a chief marketing officer (CMO) to spearhead the marketing vertical of its new venture, which aims to build an INR 100 Cr revenue business in the next few months.

Taking to his LinkedIn post, Astrotalk’s cofounder and chief executive Puneet Gupta said,”Bracelet lelo. Gemstone lelo.. lelo Rudraksh. We have recently launched a new business line and are looking to rapidly scale in the spiritual e-commerce space. We are seeking a passionate CMO to lead the marketing efforts for this new venture. If you’re excited about building a INR 100 Cr revenue business within a few months, let’s work together!”

Without further disclosing the name of his new venture, Gupta added, “Without the CMO, we can market like this only: “Bracelet lelo. Gemstone lelo.. lelo Rudraksh.”

Elaborating on this, Gupta told Inc42, “Currently we’ve begun with the crystals category as we saw a major gap in the market. We researched deeply on the original sources of all crystals and created easy-to-wear jewellery like bracelets, pendants, rings, and home decor items like Crystal Trees and pyramids.”

Regarding their sales strategy, Gupta added, “We will be marketing it on Meta and Google at the moment to sell it on our website. Along with this, we will also be present on e-commerce and quick commerce platforms by the end of this month.” While he didn’t specify exact platforms, Gupta mentioned during the conversation that they’re considering options like Amazon and Blinkit.

This comes months after Astrotalk raised INR 110 Cr ($14 Mn) in a mix of primary and secondary funding. Back then, the startup said that it would utilise the fresh capital to expand its product portfolio and shore up offerings in regional languages.

Founded in 2017 by Gupta and Anmol Jain, Astrotalk has seen significant growth in recent years. In FY23, the company reported revenue of INR 282 Cr with a profit of INR 27 Cr, showcasing its strong position in the astrotech market.

The spiritual e-commerce venture marks a diversification for Astrotalk, which has primarily focused on providing online astrology services. The platform currently boasts over 15,000 active astrologers and claims to have served more than 4 Cr users to date.

This comes on the heart of the Indian spiritual and religious market is seeing significant growth. An EMR study valued the Indian faith market at $58.56 Bn in 2023, indicating the potential for Astrotalk’s new venture.

Meanwhile, last month, astrotech platform Astroyogi sued Astrotalk, alleging unauthorised use of the ‘Astroyogi’ trademark. The former alleged that Astrotalk has used its trademark name within various horoscope categories, resulting in overlapping with the services offered by it.
