Clean energy startup Uravu Labs has secured $2.3 Mn in a seed funding round from JITO Angel Network, Anicut Capital, Speciale Invest, Rocketship.vc, Vesta, Spectrum Impact, ZNL Growth Fund, VERSO, Echo River Capital, and various high-net-worth individuals (HNIs).

Uravu Labs will utilise the fresh funds to scale up and forge partnerships with other stakeholders in the hospitality and beverage industry to expand its reach.

Including the current funding round, Uravu has raised a total of $4 Mn since its inception in 2019.

Founded by Pardeep Garg, Swapnil Shrivastav, Venkatesh R and Govinda Balaji, the Bengaluru-based company offers renewable energy solutions to residential and commercial users. It primarily uses ‘atmospheric moisture’ and renewable energy to produce drinking water.

Explaining the water treatment process, the startup said that it uses liquid desiccants to absorb moisture and then recovers the absorbed moisture to create freshwater using renewable energy sources such as solar, biomass and waste heat.

The startup claims that it can deliver tens of thousands of litres of water per day, making it suitable for various use cases, ranging from small-scale residential to large-scale commercial and industrial operations.

“Our mission is to revolutionise the water industry with breakthrough technologies that create a sustainable future for everyone. The seed funding round from JITO Angel Network, Anicut Capital, and Speciale Invest validates our efforts and the potential of our technology to address the pressing issue of water scarcity,” Uravu Labs’ cofounder Pardeep Garg said.

Of late, the startup has launched a water bottle project called Roxie FromAir in Bengaluru and aims to expand the pilot in the hospitality and beverage sector. Earlier, it carried out pilots with companies like AB InBev and Radico Khaitan.

Currently, it is looking to expand its presence globally, beginning with its first international pilot project in Japan.

“We are thrilled to support Uravu Labs in their mission to provide affordable and scalable water solutions. Their technology has the potential to revolutionise the way we access and use water. This investment is a great opportunity to back a cutting-edge technology that can help address one of the most pressing global challenges of our time,” JIIF’s chairman Rajat Mehta said.

At present, clean energy startups such as ECOSTP Technologies, INDRA Water and Swajal are also offering wastewater solutions in India.
