One week ahead of its nationwide sale Prime Day, Amazon India announced that it would be expanding its network of specialised Delivery Stations and Fulfilment Centres (FCs) for furniture and large appliances.

According to the announcement, new centres would be opening up in Guwahati and Patna, and more storage capacity would be added to existing FCs in cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Ludhiana. With these, Amazon India would have a combined storage space of more than nine million cubic feet across all its specialised FCs – an increase of 40% from December 2018.

In addition, Amazon India expanded its network of delivery stations from 60 to 80. The expanded specialised network will allow for fast, hassle-free delivery to nearly 14,000 PIN codes across India – double the figure in 2018.

Commenting on the expansion, Akhil Saxena, vice president of Customer Fulfilment at Amazon Asia said “We are happy to announce the expansion of our specialized network for large appliances and furniture as we consistently invest in our infrastructure and delivery network, to provide a superior experience to both – customers and sellers.”

Amazon India features around 3,500 products in the Large Appliances category and around 120,000 items under the Furniture category. 80% of customers opt for Amazon’s delivery and installation service, currently available in 240 cities for large appliances and 89 cities for furniture. With nearly 60% of buyers opting for next-day delivery or delivery within two days for large appliances, the new expansion will further enhance the customer experience.

Keshav Chawla, Director of Category Management at Amazon India further added “Our investments in infrastructure, installation services and sound finance options have led to changes in customer behavior and adoption of online shopping for Large Appliances and Furniture. With this infrastructure addition we want to extend scheduled and next day delivery to more customers. We continue to be relentlessly focused on providing a superior experience for customers buying products in these categories.”

On Prime Day, Amazon Prime members will have exclusive access to over 1,000 product launches and major deals on appliances such as the water purifier by Eureka Forbes, the Dyson handheld vacuum cleaner, the Alexa-equipped washing machine by IFB and many others.
