Post the GST sale bonanza, Amazon has now introduced Prime Day in India for the first time. It is an exclusive ecommerce sale event for Amazon Prime members.

Amazon Prime Day will be held on Tuesday July 11, 2017. Prime members can avail of exclusives sales and deals for a 30-hour period starting 6 pm on July 10, 2017.

Amazon Prime Day is an annual sale event. This year it will run in 13 countries. The list of countries includes US, UK, Spain, Mexico, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, and Austria.

Commenting on launching Prime Day, Amit Agarwal, the company’s SVP and Country Head in India said, “Prime is our flagship programme which brings the best of Amazon to members. With unlimited, free and fast delivery, ad-free video streaming, exclusive selection and deals etc. We are humbled by the tremendous response to Prime since its launch less than a year ago. We are thrilled to bring Prime Day to India, curating a special experience for our members with 30 hours of exclusive shopping and new streaming content.”

Exclusive Benefits To Members On Amazon Prime Day

  • 30 new launches from brands like Honor Mobile Phones, IFB, LG, Sharp, ASICS, Rocky S, GAP, Lavie, Louis Philippe, Lego, Delsey, and Puma etc.
  • Deals on the newly launched Amazon Fire TV stick and Kindle.
  • 20% Extra Cashback on Amazon Pay – Members who top up their balance starting June 29 will get extra 20% cashback upto INR 200.

Also, customers using HDFC Bank debit and credit cards can avail a 15% cashback up to INR 2,000 on a minimum purchase of INR 5,000. Prime Video too will unveil the latest TV shows and films, premium content, on Prime Day.

Prime membership is currently available at an introductory price of INR 499 year.

Amazon Prime Day is yet another example of the ecommerce wars being fought in India. With a potential multibillion dollar market at stake and the impending rollout of the GST (Goods and Service Tax), ecommerce players such as Flipkart and Amazon are going all out to retain their customers in a variety of ways, that include more than discounts. Flipkart has gone fashion-centric, even launching its own ethnic women’s wear label – Divastri – as well as instituting platform-wide sales from Myntra, Jabong, and Flipkart. With Prime Day, the company looks to play on user sentiments of exclusivity and premium content to keep the momentum going.
