Amardeep Singh Bhatia Named New DPIIT Secretary, Succeeds Rajesh Kumar Singh

Senior IAS officer Amardeep Singh Bhatia has taken over as the secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), succeeding Rajesh Kumar Singh

Last week, Singh was appointed as the new defence secretary.

Prior to this, Bhatia has served as an additional secretary in the department of commerce and was involved in trade policies and free trade agreement negotiations

Senior IAS officer Amardeep Singh Bhatia has taken over as the secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), succeeding Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Last week, Singh was appointed as the new defence secretary.

Prior to that, Bhatia, a 1993 batch from Nagaland cadre, was serving as an additional secretary in the department of commerce and was involved in trade policies and free trade agreement negotiations.

In the central government, he has held many important positions in the ministries of corporate affairs and health and family welfare.

In the state government, the new DPIIT secretary has handled departments of planning and coordination, health and family welfare, environment and forest, municipalities and local self government and home, among others.

Singh is an IAS officer from the 1989 Kerala batch. Before this role as Secretary DPIIT, he served as the secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. 

He has also held several key positions in the central government, including roles in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Department of Agriculture, and the Food Corporation of India.
