A few days after the Indian government lifted the ban on Krafton’s battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), users complained about facing a technical glitch while trying to download the popular game.

Some users were able to access a link on Monday morning which redirected them to the Play Store and the App Store for downloading BGMI. From the link, it appeared that BGMI was available for downloading in India.

However, only a few users were able to download the game. Others faced a technical problem, with the link showing the message, “We’re sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.”

Many users took to Twitter to complain about the issue.

Krafton confirmed to Inc42 that users were facing issues while trying to download the game.

“Currently, the closed test track for BGMI is updated. Those who opted for a public test for the game before its launch are expected to get a message which takes them to the Play Store for downloading the game. However, the link won’t work and the game cannot be downloaded as the servers have been shut,” Krafton said in a statement.

“We also understand that some other users who had not opted for the closed test are also getting this message. This is a technical error and we are working on resolving it,” the South Korean game developer added.

Last week, Krafton said that the Indian government had allowed BGMI to operate in India.

“We are highly grateful to the Indian authorities for allowing us to resume operations of BGMI. We are excited to announce that BGMI will be available for download soon and we cannot wait to welcome you back to our platform,” Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, said.

However, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Twitter that the government had given a three-month trial approval for BGMI after Krafton addressed India’s concerns on issues of server locations, data security, among others.

“We will keep a close watch on other issues of user harm, addiction, etc. in the next three months before a final decision is taken,” the minister added.

Krafton, which published and distributed PUBG Mobile games in India, re-entered the Indian market with BGMI in July 2021, almost a year after PUBG was banned in the country due to geopolitical issues.

Within a year of its launch, BGMI touched 100 Mn registered users in India in July 2022. However, the game was pulled down from Google and Apple stores following a government order in July 2022.
