Disney Movie app ‘Disney Movies Anywhere’ now on iOS

Disney movies have a special place in my heart and I am not ashamed to admit that even at 21, I still tear up when I see Simba running to his Dad, Mufasa after the stampede in the classic 1994 movie ‘The Lion King’. Disney movies are known not just for great story lines, incredible voice acting(for animated movies) but amazing musical scores too. Listening to ‘Can you feel the Love Tonight’ by Sir Elton John still gives me goosebumps. Almost all youth in the 21st century would agree that Disney movies and the characters in it were an integral part of their childhood.

The 20th century leader in kid’s movies, Walt Disney Studios has launched a new app where-in users can find Disney, Pixar, and Marvel films that they have purchased, while also discovering new ones. The main aim of the app is to build a digital collection of movies that can complement or even replace the racks of Disney movies DVDs in our homes. The app is not a competitor to iTunes as Disney Movies Anywhere is integrated with iTunes, which basically serves as the app’s retail backend.

Pros

  • Offer a rich, interactive experience around the content.
  • Offers an improved browsing and viewing experience, particularly for families. Parents can add MPAA ratings to control the movies that are accessible to kids, thus shielding them from violent, vulgar or other unnecessary content.
  • App allows movies to be either streamed or downloaded.
  • Also includes Discover area that features original, exclusive, and behind-the-scenes videos.
  • Disney lovers get to see their favourite animated videos without any hassles of searching through a lot of  other content.

Cons

  • Users need to download an extra app, when everything is anyways already available on iTunes.
  • There isn’t a single amazing feature that will win users over to this app, but there are many small tweaks that most users may not notice or appreciate.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Bottom Line: There is nothing new here to win you over, but with parental controls and other features like ‘Discover’ it is a must have for a Disney movie buff.
