Noida-based web and mobile train travel app RailYatri has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani

Its existing investors Helion Venture Partners, Omidyar Networks and Blume Ventures also participated in the round.

Founded by Manish Rathi, Kapil Raizada and Sachin Saxena in 2011, Rail Yatri is a crowdsourced platform for train travel related services. It provides comprehensive information on train status, reservation status, seat availability, amenities, disruptions etc. Besides, it provides services like taxi bookings and book meals on the go.

RailYatri uses deep-analytics technology to make intelligent predictions that help travelers make decisions for their upcoming travel. The app uses a traveller’s mobile GPS to predict a train’s delay, telling about the platform number, coach position and on-time history, of a train.

The RailYatri app claims to currently serve nearly 2 Mn users per month and covers about 4,000 stations.

Kapil Raizada co-founder of RailYatri.in said, “We are honoured to have Nandan Nilekani as our investor. His passion and success in using technology to transform lives for the common man – be it in Aadhar project which recently crossed a billion registrations or the recent Unified Payment Interface (UPI) – has been truly inspirational.”

RailYatri had raised pre series A funding from Helion Venture Partners and Omidyar Networks, in June 2015. The company previously raised $486K from Blume Ventures.
