Jaipur-based CultureAlley has been backed by Tiger Global with an investment of about $5Mn. Tiger Global partner Lee Fixel has joined the board of the company. The startup had earlier received a seed funding from angel investors Rajan Anandan and Kae Capital founder Sasha Mirchandani. The company was co-founded by IIT-Bombay alumnus Nishant Patni and Pranshu Bhandari with their language learning application in October last year. It claims that it has seen 3Mn installs on iOS and Android from India within eight months of its launch. It aims to become an english platform for Indians who are in the working age group.
Pranshu said,”In the next two years we want to become a household brand in the nation for language learning. Once we nail India, we will look to other similar markets in Asia.” The company has come up with a range of games and quizzes in languages such as Spanish, English, Hindi, Mandarin and Punjabi. It operates with about 17 employees and has global competition from DuoLingo, Memrise and Anki.
