Delhi-based auto-hailing app, AUTOnCAB, has acquired hyperlocal grocery delivery startup BigZop for an undisclosed amount.
Started in June by Aaditya Goyal and Subhajit Ray, BigZop is an online grocery store based out of Gurgaon. The firm offers over 3,500 items across categories ranging from fruits & vegetables, grocery, beverages, personal care, household and dairy.
Post this deal, Aditya and Subhajit will work as part of the core team in AUTOnCAB.
With the cash and stock deal, AUTOnCAB is focused to develop a smart ultra-budget platform for urban commuters, improve services, maintain market position in Gurgaon and expects to facilitate 1 Mn rides by expanding in 40 cities by the end of 2015.
Vinit Doshi, co-founder of AUTOnCAB said, “We want to help auto rickshaw owners gain maximum utility of their asset.” Basically, the idea is to create a sustainable ecosystem for drivers as well as commuters through technology. An average AUTOnCAB driver makes INR 20,000 more than his peers, and a regular commuter can save upto 20% using the AUTOnCAB mobile application.
Besides, with the existing network of auto rickshaws, AUTOnCAB is also planning to launch new products in the areas of hyperlocal logistics and urban transportation which will improve the utilisation of a driver’s time.
NGA Technologies Pvt Ltd owned AUTOnCAB, offers auto and cab bookings via both Android and iOS apps and is currently operational in Gurgaon, Noida and Chandigarh. On booking, the platform automatically detects a user’s location and sends an auto to it. For now, the company claims to have over 1,000 drivers and 25,000 customers on its platform.
AUTOnCAB’s biggest rivals include Ola and Jugnoo. Cab aggregator Ola, recently ventured into the home delivery of meals and groceries segment by organically launching a standalone app named Ola Store. While Jugnoo, which already offered grocery delivery and autorickshaw aggregation services, has recently forayed into cab hailing through the BookMyCab buy.
Other players in the online grocery market such as LocalBanya, PepperTap, Grofers, Myonsto, BigBasket and iOrderFresh can also give competition to AUTOnCAB as most of these are aggregators who essentially provide an online platform to order from local vendors.
