Noor Patel, Director Category Management, Amazon India said, “Exam Central bookstore is launched under the Books department on Amazon.in dedicated for all competitive exams aspirants. We have been witnessing a growing demand for exam preparation books for some time. In fact Exam Preparation books emerged as the third most popular genre in books across all cities as per Amazon.in’s Reading Trends Report 2015. We saw government vacancy exam preparation books as our fastest growing sub-category followed by English language learning books. Responding to this customer demand, we decided to launch Exam Central to enable students as well as other exam aspirants, an easy and convenient access to a wide selection of exam preparation content to help them prepare better for exams.”
Amazon has curated the Exam Central bookstore into various sub categories relevant for exams like ‘Civil Services’, ‘Defence Services’, ‘Govt. Vacancy’, ‘Other UPSC Exams’, ‘Engineering’, ‘Management’, ‘Medical’, ‘International Exams’, ‘Law’, ‘IT Certification’ and ‘Finance’.
With this advent, Amazon has come in direct competition to various online portals that provide study material and other aids for competitive exams. The Indian test prep market is heavily flooded with offline and online players. There are offline players like Mahendra’s Institute, Career Launcher and Career Power among others, while the online test prep players have startups like Testbook, Toppr, Plancess, Embibe, Onlietyari, Mockbank and many more.
