E-Cell, NITT… E-Cell, NITT, Trichy
One of the first steps of an entrepreneur’s journey is his/her education. Though not a prerequisite for being successful in the startup world, a solid foundation often goes a long way in contributing to the success. In such a scenario, it is imperative that educational institutions take up necessary initiatives to promote early stage entrepreneurship among current students and early graduates across country. As these institutions have access to a wide support system and knowledge resources, platforms built through them are usually an ideal launchpad for any early stage entrepreneur. It is with this thought that the Entrepreneurship Cell of NIT Trichy, in association with CEDI-Sonata Software; is conducting ‘Ventura’, an annual business model competition powered by CitrusPay.
Entrepreneurship Cell, NIT Trichy considers ‘Ventura’ its flagship initiative – an ideal platform for early stage entrepreneurs and ideapreneurs to kickstart their idea. Ventura aims to achieve this by providing –
- Expert Technology and Business Mentors.
- Resources to Start-up.
- Opportunity to pitch the idea to prominent angel investors, VCs and incubators.
Started as an intra-college business plan competition in the year 2005, it has since then grown exponentially. Previous editions have received more than 650 business ideas including participants from international institutions like Politecnico Di Milano (Italy), University of Cambridge (UK), University of Cornell (USA), and premier Indian institutes such as IIMs, IISc Bangalore, BITS, IITs and NITs.
One of the unique aspects of Ventura is the 7 week mentoring period – this period helps any entrepreneur/team to give shape and direction to their product and idea, with the support of stalwarts in various fields. Every team is mentored towards product development for a month and towards business development for the next month. The end result – a robust business model and a scalable and expandable MVP. This edition of Ventura has two special tracks – Internet of Things (IoT) and FinTech. Winners in these two tracks will receive a separate cash prize and access to tailor-made resources for the respective tracks.
Participants have an option of attending ‘Live Mentoring Sessions’ this year – allowing you to interact with expert mentors in-person during a predetermined slot. This will be a great opportunity to network with the industry experts, get advice and build long-lasting relationships. In addition, winners and finalists this year get free/discounted access to a host of services including: Commission-less Payments from CitrusPay, Digital Marketing from Briefkase, Web Hosting from E2E, Legal Advisory from Meeturpro, IP Support from BananaIP, Coworking Spaces from CoworkCafe and Cloud Services from PTC ThingWorx.
Ventura has a wide array of VC and Angel associates, with investors in fields ranging from technology to sustainable development. Associates of this edition of Ventura include – Kalaari Capital, Matrix Partners, Helion Venture Partners, Orios Venture Partners, Mumbai Angels, Seedfund, Ventureast, Indian Angel Network, and GHV Accelerator. The list is only expected to increase with time.
Total Cash Prize for Ventura’16 is 1.5Lac INR. This is in addition to the incubation and investment expected from VC and Angel Partners.
