Zomato Launches New Feature For Customers To Tip Kitchen Staff

SUMMARY

Zomato will ask the customers if they would like to tip the restaurant's kitchen staff after they have rated their order four or five stars

Customers can pay the tip as a percentage of the total order value or enter any amount of their choice up to a maximum cap

Zomato would remit the tips, after deducting any applicable taxes, to the restaurants, putting the onus of distributing tips to the restaurants that sign up for it

Continuing its launch of new features and offerings, listed foodtech giant Zomato has now introduced a feature for customers to tip the kitchen staff of restaurants they order food from.

“With this feature, customers can tip the restaurant’s kitchen staff – the wonderful chefs, cleaning staff, helpers, etc. as a way of appreciation. This new feature will enrich the food ordering and delivery experience for both our restaurant partners and customers,” the startup said in a blog post on Thursday (September 21).

Zomato will ask the customers if they would like to tip the restaurant’s kitchen staff after they have rated their order four or five stars. Customers will also get the option to tip the restaurant kitchen staff from the live order tracking page after placing the order.

Customers can pay the tip as a percentage of the total order value. Zomato will allow customers to pay between 3% and 10% of the order value as a tip. However, customers can also enter any amount of their choice up to a maximum cap, though the foodtech giant did not say what the cap would be.

According to Zomato, it would remit the tips, after deducting any applicable taxes, to the restaurants, putting the onus of distributing tips to the restaurants that sign up for it.

“Zomato does not keep any commissions out of the tip amount and it is passed through 100%. Our restaurant partners can keep track of tips in their weekly payouts and statement of account on the merchant app or web dashboard,” the company explained.

To ensure that tips are distributed fairly, the food delivery platform will ask restaurants to sign a pledge for the same.
