Zomato Is Now Officially Eternal As MCA Confirms Name Change

SUMMARY

This comes a couple of weeks after the foodtech major’s shareholders passed a special resolution to change the name of the company to Eternal Limited

The latest exercise marks the second time that the company is rebranding itself, as the foodtech major, which was founded as Foodiebay in 2008, was renamed to Zomato in 2010

Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal earlier said that the new name will help the company distinguish clearly between its corporate identity and the food delivery app

Zomato is now officially Eternal. The foodtech major said that the corporate affairs ministry has approved the change in the name of the company to Eternal Limited with effect from March 20, 2025.

“The name of the company, thus, stands amended to “Eternal Limited” with effect from March 20, 2025, and the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the company stands altered to the extent of the change of name of the company,” said the company in an exchange filing.

This comes a couple of weeks after the foodtech major’s shareholders passed a special resolution to change the name of the company to Eternal Limited.

It is pertinent to note that the latest exercise marks the second time that the company is rebranding itself. The company, which was founded as Foodiebay in 2008, was renamed to Zomato in 2010.

The move is in line with a strategic shift within Zomato as quick commerce arm Blinkit emerges as a significant driver of growth. Not just this, the company has evolved from merely delivering food under the Zomato brand to offering services such as B2B food supply via Hyperpure as well as dining and events through District.

The new name will also help the company distinguish clearly between its corporate identity and the food delivery app.

In a shareholders’ letter last month, Zomato cofounder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said the company had internally started using “Eternal” to refer to the consolidated business post the acquisition of Blinkit in 2022.

“We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there. We would like to rename Zomato Ltd., the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd,” Goyal said at the time.

Meanwhile, the company will now shift its corporate website to eternal.com and update its stock ticker from “ZOMATO” to “ETERNAL”.

The development comes at a time when Blinkit has emerged as the star performer in Eternal’s portfolio on the back of the growing demand for quick deliveries. The quick commerce vertical accounted for a quarter (INR 1,399 Cr) of Zomato’s total operating revenue of INR 5,405 Cr in the third quarter (Q3) of the fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25).

Brokerage firm Bernstein believes that Blinkit will surpass the revenue of Zomato’s food delivery business by FY30.

Shares of Zomato closed yesterday’s trading session 0.47% higher at INR 224.50 on the BSE.
