Xiaomi India president Muralikrishnan B has announced his departure from the company by the end of this year.

After six years of association with Xiaomi, Muralikrishnan is now set to pursue his passion for academic research, although he will continue as an independent strategic advisor, the company said in a statement.

He will focus on executive doctorate in management to refine his expertise in ‘Consumer Behaviour on Technology Platforms’, it added.

Muralikrishnan joined Xiaomi India in 2018 and since then ranked upward to assume the role of president in 2022. Before being appointed as the company’s president, he was working as a chief operating officer of the company.

During his tenure, he led strategic direction across teams and enhanced Xiaomi India’s presence, the statement said.

“My experience at Xiaomi India has been one of the most fulfilling chapters of my career…I am grateful to Xiaomi’s leadership for their guidance, to my peers and team members for their support, and to our partners and Xiaomi fans who have been integral to our success,” said Muralikrishnan.

On Muralikrishnan’s departure from the company, Adam Zeng, Senior VP of the Xiaomi Group and president of international business department said, “Under Murali’s leadership, Xiaomi has seen exceptional success in India…We deeply appreciate his contribution, and our commitment to India’s growth journey remains stronger than ever”.

The development comes two months after Xiaomi India roped in former Motorola Mobility India managing director Sudhin Mathur as its new COO

In July, the company also shed light on its plans to ship 70 Cr devices, including smartphones, televisions, tablets, and connected devices, over the next decade.

Muralikrishnan in July said that the company is looking to increase the “net domestic value addition” for its smartphones to 22% by 2025. Xiaomi India has already sold 25 Cr devices in its ten-year stint in the country so far, he added.
