VMware Expands Commitment to Mobile with AirWatch’s acquisition for $1.54 Bn

VMware – cloud and virtualization Software Company has recently got into agreement to acquire mobile management specialist AirWatch for $1.54 Bn.

Atlanta, GA, based AirWatch is the provider of enterprise solutions for Mobile Device Management, Mobile Application Management and Mobile Content Management. it’s solutions provides enterprises with a strategic platform to securely manage a rapidly growing set of mobile devices and an increasingly mobile workforce.

“With this acquisition VMware will add a foundational element to our end-user computing portfolio that will enable our customers to turbo-charge their mobile workforce without compromising security,”  said VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger.

“We now have an opportunity to bring our leading-edge solutions to an even broader set of customers and partners to help them optimize for the mobile-cloud world,” said AirWatch chairman Alan Dabbiere.

As mentioned by AirWatch on its blog, it will not anticipate any disruption in business or customer support. Also, Customers will continue to work with the same team they have been working with and will continue to receive outstanding support.

The AirWatch team will continue to report to founder and chief executive officer John Marshall as part of VMware’s End-User Computing group, led by Sanjay Poonen, EVP and GM. Alan Dabbiere, AirWatch’s cofounder and chairman, will be overseeing a new AirWatch operating board which will report to Pat Gelsinger, VMware chief executive officer.

As mentioned by AirWatch – it has more than 10,000 customers globally and more than 1,600 employees across nine global offices.

The Atlanta site is expected to expand and be the center of VMware’s mobile operations post acquisition
