Dineout cofounders’ new healthtech startup The Medical Travel Company (TMTC) has raised $4.5 Mn (around INR 40 Cr) in a seed funding round led by Nexus Venture Partners.

The round also saw participation from Kriscore Capital, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, KL Rahul, Sriharsha Majety (cofounder, Swiggy), Abhishek Goyal (cofounder, Tracxn), Ritesh Malik (cofounder, Innov8), Manish Vij (managing partner, Smile Group), Arjun Vaidya (cofounder, V3 Ventures), among others.

The startup aims to deploy the fresh capital to expand its footprint and scale its operations in the UK and India. Over the next three to four years, it plans to expand its services in markets including the US, Canada, Australia and the rest of Europe.

Founded by Ankit Mehrotra and Sahil Jain in 2024, TMTC offers end-to-end medical tourism solutions including pre-travel consultations, post-surgery support, luxury recovery facilities and insurance coverage.

The startup offers solutions in medical segments including dental, fertility care, orthopaedic and wellness. It claims to be facilitating patients to travel abroad for faster, and affordable treatment. It has onboarded doctors from India and UK, by which the patient can consult and decide on their medical treatment journey.

TMTC has partnered with hospitals including Fortis, Max Healthcare, Nova IVF Fertility,  among others. Besides, it also offers a 12-month post surgery insurance policy valid in the UK.

“Today, there are 500K UK patients traveling abroad for care. Tomorrow, there will be millions globally accessing the world’s best treatment regardless of geography. We’re building the infrastructure for healthcare without borders,” Mehrotra said.

The founder duo is also known for building dineout, a foodtech platform which was later acquired by Swiggy in 2022.

India’s medical tourism market is projected to grow from an estimated $18.2 Bn in 2025 to $ 58.2 Bn by 2035. To cash on this opportunity, several Indian startups are emerging and getting a lot of traction from the investors.

For instance, last year, non-hospital medical tourism startup Global Care raised $3 Mn in a Series A funding round to provide advanced medical care across various specialties in India, Turkey, Dubai, Egypt, Germany and Thailand.

During the same time travel tech giant MakeMyTrip acquired Rollins International Private Limited for INR 60 Cr and a 49% stake in Pflege Home Healthcare Center LLC, making its entry into medical tourism.
