SUMMARY

Inc42 hosted the second edition of The GenAI Summit on April 9, 2025 in Bengaluru, convening 350+ AI founders, technologists, investors, and business leaders from across India

The summit featured 40+ speakers across 15+ curated sessions, including voices from Microsoft, PhonePe, BetterPlace, Lightspeed, and Sarvam AI, offering deep dives into India’s GenAI potential

From sovereign AI and data privacy to MSME adoption, infra gaps, and GenAI-led commerce, the day sparked bold, honest conversations on building AI for India's unique challenges and scale

On April 9, 2025, Inc42 hosted the second edition of The GenAI Summit at JW Marriott, Bengaluru — bringing together over 350 of India’s most influential AI builders, researchers, investors, and policymakers for a day of no-fluff conversations on what it really takes to build GenAI from India, for India.

Through 15 sessions and 40+ speakers, the summit delved deep into how Indian startups are navigating the GenAI opportunity — from regulation and infrastructure to capital, capability, and consumer readiness.

The underlying theme? India is all in on GenAI, but it won’t look like Silicon Valley’s version.

Amid the ongoing global AI race, India must focus on building a ‘sovereign AI’ ecosystem to ensure autonomy over its data, Sarvam AI cofounder Vivek Raghavan said. “… We have always wanted to think of the concept of sovereign AI … how do you control your own data, your own models and your own compute?” Sarvam AI’s cofounder said.

Meanwhile, Glance’s Piyush Shah spotlighted how GenAI is rapidly evolving consumer experiences, revealing that the company is already piloting a personalised, AI-led commerce layer for its lockscreen content — one that could redefine how users discover and shop across platforms.

Yet, for all the optimism, the summit didn’t shy away from hard truths.

ManageEngine’s CEO Rajesh Ganesan highlighted an adoption mindset, “The enterprise clients want their business problems to be solved and the onus is on us to effectively use AI to solve those issues… In different geographies including India and the US, we are not seeing our clients rush through any adoption.”

Tally’s Tejas Goenka echoed that concern, pointing that trusting the emerging tech remains a key challenge for small and medium-sized businesses due to data concerns. “While there is enthusiasm around AI, there are also concerns on how the sensitive data of businesses is being used,” the Tally Solutions MD said.

Gaurav Aggarwal (Chief AI Scientist, Reliance Jio) issued a wake-up call.

“We don’t have the right policies in place to leapfrog in AI development. Extending the risk capital is the type of capital for the deeptech we need. If you look at the kind of capital that has gone into the deeptech ecosystem of the US or China, India has not got any exposure to that kind of capital,” Aggarwal added.

At the same time, leaders like Nitin Jain of OfBusiness showcased GenAI’s tangible gains, noting how it helped the company to cut the research time from 4-5 days to about 30-45 minutes.

From infra and model development to retail personalisation and language-led innovation, GenAI Summit 2025 was a reality check and a rallying cry, reminding India’s builders that the GenAI race is not just about technology, but about relevance, sovereignty, and ambition.

None of it would’ve been possible without the support of our sponsors and partners, who’ve helped make The GenAI Summit 2025 a powerful step forward in India’s AI-first journey. Thank you for powering this movement.
