Telangana Govt To Launch Digital Public Infra For AI

SUMMARY

Called Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX), the platform is slated to go live on July 2

The new platform will look to develop cross-domain AI solutions via collaboration between the state, industry, research institutions, and startups

Developed by IISc Bengaluru, the platform will also offer access to datasets and collaborative tools for AI developers

The Telangana government, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will reportedly launch India’s first state-led digital public infrastructure (DPI) for artificial intelligence.

As per news agency PTI, the new platform will look to develop cross-domain AI solutions via collaboration between the state, industry, research institutions and startups. Under the partnership, JICA’s DXLab is reportedly providing strategic and technical guidance for the project.

Called Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX), the platform is slated to go live on July 2. Developed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, the platform will also offer access to datasets and collaborative tools for AI developers.

“I invite all ecosystem stakeholders to join us in realising this vision,” Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reportedly said.

The report added that TGDeX will leverage the state government’s repository of public datasets and the local AI ecosystem to build a thriving AI ecosystem in the state. Under the project, the Telangana AI Mission, incubator T-Hub, MATH (AI Centre of Excellence at T-Hub), IIT Hyderabad, and the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) will back TGDeX’s target of building 2,000 AI-ready datasets within the next five years.

Meanwhile, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also announced that the state government’s ambitious Amaravati Quantum Valley will be operationalised by January 2026. The project, which as per Naidu will generate 1 Lakhs jobs, will be kicked off with 100 real-time use cases in governance, health, and industry.

Nevertheless, the developments come at a time when the Centre has stepped up efforts to spur the adoption of AI across domains. Last year, the Union government launched the IndiaAI Mission, with an initial outlay of INR 10,372 Cr over the next five years. The project aims to build a robust AI ecosystem, comprising over 10,000 GPUs, in collaboration with academia and startups.

Under this, the Centre recently selected ten tech giants, including Jio Platforms, Tata Communications,  among others, to supply and manage AI compute infrastructure.

The government earlier this year also floated a project to build an indigenous AI foundational model. Last month, the Centre said that it has received 506 proposals to build the ambitious project. Alongside, four startups – SarvamAI, Soket AI, Gnani.ai & Gan.ai – have been selected to build a homegrown large language model (LLM).

In June, the Union government also said that four out of the eight responsible artificial intelligence solutions to be built under the IndiaAI Mission’s ‘safe and trusted AI pillar’ will go live on the mission’s AIKosha portal between September and December.
