Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has launched a non-fungible token (NFT) platform for her fans – taapseeclub.com – aiming to create a positive space for her fans and separate genuine supporters from trolls.
“Taapsee Club consists of exclusive NFT competitions and giveaways where the members can win merchandise from her movies and tangibly support the causes she champions,” the website reads. “We intend to create a positive forum for Taapsee’s fans from around the globe that enables people to get a gist of her life and take their fandom to a new level.”
She also shared a video to launch the NFTs on social media.
Pannu shared a video on the NFT platform, in which she said that fans who buy the NFTs will become a member of the club. The membership entails multiple benefits, including access to exclusive content, merchandise and experiences.
The first NFT drop is priced at around INR 3,000. It offers a membership with a chance of winning gifts handpicked by Pannu. NFT membership includes four video greetings from Pannu.
Fans will also get one ticket for the lucky draw which includes 100 autographed goodies from the actress’ favourite selections, 100 autographed cards, five video calls with Pannu (this can be one-on-one or with multiple people at the same time) and one outfit or memorabilia from her filmography. The platform only offers around 500 tickets for the first NFT drop.
Taapsee Pannu, who has starred in movies like ‘Pink’ and ‘Mission Mangal’, has joined the NFT bandwagon at a time when the excitement around blockchain-based tech beyond financial services applications has tempered significantly. NFTs, which rose to prominence in late 2020, are unique pieces of art.
NFTs attracted massive interest in 2021 when digital artists such as Pak and Mike ‘Beeple’ Winkelmann raised millions of dollars selling their art as NFTs. For instance, Beeple’s HUMAN ONE was sold at an auction at Christie’s for nearly $29 Mn (around INR 214.36 Cr).
However, the single most expensive NFT ever sold was Pak’s Merge, which was snapped up for $91.8 Mn (around INR 692.16 Cr).
Around the same time, multiple Bollywood and sports celebrities in India also caught the NFT fever. The likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Suniel Shetty, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, among others, launched their NFT tokens with a similar aim in mind – to create a community with fans.
