Delhi NCR-based edtech startup Suraasa has raised $6 Mn in a funding round led by Reach Capital.
The round also saw participation from ETS Capital, NB Ventures, TSM ventures, TRTL Ventures, and other strategic investors.
The startup plans to use the fresh capital to scale up its operations globally, expand its team, and shore up its tech stack.
Founded in 2017 by Rishabh Khanna, Suraasa offers competency-based skilling programmes for teachers.
With the latest round, the edtech startup has raised more than $7.2 Mn across two rounds.
Commenting on the latest funding round, Suraasa founder and CEO Khanna said, “The global shortage of qualified teachers is a critical challenge, and solving it requires innovation and a deep commitment to the future of education. Reach Capital managing partner Jennifer Carolan said that schools in the US and all over the world are facing acute teacher shortages, and Suraasa is addressing this challenge by training a global teacher workforce.
Suraasa previously raised $1.2 Mn in its seed funding round in December 2022, led by Inflection Point Ventures.
Since its inception, it claims to have upskilled over 2.5 Lakh teachers and worked with more than 5,000 schools. With operations spanning 45 countries, the edtech startup claims to have delivered 10 Cr minutes of learning through its platform.
Operating in India’s competitive edtech landscape in India, Suraasa competes directly with the likes of LEAD, EdIndia, among others.
The homegrown space is also populated by the likes of giants such as Unacademy, and Vedantu. However, Suraasa’s focus on teacher development and global mobility sets it apart from many of its peers.
As per a report, the global teacher training market is projected to reach a size of $22.2 Bn by 2030.
The fundraise comes at a time when the Indian edtech sector is witnessing significant activity. Recently, PhysicsWallah raised $210 Mn in a Series B round, while Planet Spark secured $17 Mn in an extended Series B round.
