Pune-based gaming studio Super Gaming’s battle royale game Indus has surpassed 10 Mn pre-registrations via Google Play for android devices.
This follows the company’s closed beta program for Android users to play the game in February. Last month, SuperGaming announced the beta release of its “Indo-futuristic” battle royale game.
SuperGaming will expand its beta programme with 200,000 beta keys to be distributed. In addition to this there will be new rewards, including unique skins and charms among others.
“While we can’t get all 10 Mn of you to play Indus just yet, we’re doing our best to
give out more beta keys to meet the unprecedented demand,” said Roby John, CEO and cofounder of SuperGaming.
The Indus Battle Royale Beta includes the complete battle royale experience as well as several new features tested and improved upon through previous Indus Community Playtests, the Indus Esports Invitational, as well as the recent Indus Unchained Esports Tournament that concluded last week.
Set up in 2017 by Roby John, Navneet Waraich, Sanket Nadhani, Christelle D’cruz and Sreejit J, SuperGaming is building mobile games such as MaskGun, Silly Royale, and Tower Conquest. It is also building its own gaming engine called SuperPlatform for running hyperscale, real-time multiplayer games.
SuperGaming, backed by investors including Bandai Namco, Akatsuki Entertainment Technology Fund, Skycatcher, BAce Capital, and Dream Incubator, unveiled Indus in January 2022. The company has plans to release the game on various platforms, including mobile, consoles, and PC.
For Indus, the startup is focussing on creating a futuristic society against the backdrop of Indian civilisation, and art and culture to offer gamers a fresh yet relatable and immersive experience.
During FY23, the Indian gaming industry saw high growth, reaching 568 Mn gamers, with 25% being paying users, as per Lumikai’s report. This reflects a 12% increase in gamers and a strong 17% growth in paying users compared to FY22.
