Ratan Tata Commits INR 500 Cr To Improve Medical Facilities In India

Joining the fight against Covid-19, Tata Trusts has now announced that it is committing INR 500 Cr to improve the availability of healthcare facilities across the country.

In a tweet, Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata said that the current situation in India and across the world is of grave concern and needs immediate action. He also emphasised that Tata Trusts and Tata group companies, in the past, have risen to the needs of the nation.

To continue their pledge to protect and empower all affected communities, Tata Trusts is committing INR 500 Cr. The grant will be utilised to get more personal protective equipment for the medical personnel on the frontlines, testing kits to increase per capita testing, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients, and knowledge management and training of health workers and the general public.

Tata said that in this exceptionally difficult period, he believes that urgent emergency resources need to be deployed to cope with the needs of fighting the Covid-19 crisis, which is one of the toughest challenges the human race will face.

He also noted that Tata Trusts, Tata Sons and the Tata Group are taking help from Indian and global partners and the government with a public health collaboration platform. He believes that this platform will enable healthcare to reach sections that are underprivileged and deprived.

India Inc Joining The Fight Against Covid-19

Besides Tata Group, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited have also announced its massive plans to tackle coronavirus. Reliance said it has set up a 100-bed hospital in Mumbai to meet the demand for isolation wards in the wake of cases surging in the financial capital of India.

Additionally, Reliance has also announced free fuel for all emergency service vehicles. Mukesh Ambani-led group has also announced initial support of INR 5 Cr to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. It is also working with Microsoft Teams communication and collaboration app to offer remote tools to students, educational and healthcare institutions. It will provide basic JioFiber broadband connectivity at 10 Mbps, wherever it is geographically feasible, without any service charges.

Prior to this, the chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra has also announced that it has started manufacturing ventilators to meet the shortage. Mahindra assured that the company will immediately start working on the manufacturing facilities. The company has also decided to transform Mahindra Holidays resorts into temporary care facilities to assist the government and army.
