After Wingify's $200 Mn acquisition by Everstone, Chopra plans to establish an AI lab in India focused on developing efficient reasoning models
The venture will prioritise efficiency over massive computational resources, exploring innovative approaches like reinforcement learning and neurosymbolic reasoning
Chopra is currently assembling a technical team to prepare a proposal for India's AI mission while running Turing's Dream, a 6-week AI residency programme in Bengaluru
Entrepreneur Paras Chopra, who recently exited Wingify following its $200 Mn acquisition by private equity firm Everstone, unveiled plans to set up an AI laboratory in India focused on smarter reasoning models.
Making the announcement on social media platforms X and LinkedIn, Chopra said he aims to create a foundational AI lab that would produce models and algorithms for implementation around the world.
“I’m assembling a team to put together a proposal for India’s AI mission,” Chopra said, adding that he is looking out for technical experts to join the initiative either full-time or part-time.
The lab will specifically focus on reasoning models which are fundamental to solving complex problems. “If we crack superintelligent reasoning models that think creatively, we will turbocharge growth and have a real chance of solving many of the world’s current unsolved problems like poverty, cancer and the mysteries of universe and consciousness,” he said.
Unlike AI labs in the West with billion-dollar GPU budgets, Chopra’s venture will stress on efficiency. This will drive innovation, forcing the team to approach problems from a fresh perspective. The lab plans to explore various “attack vectors for efficiency” such as tools, reinforcement learning, distillation, pruning, and neurosymbolic reasoning.
In 2009, Chopra founded Wingify, which grew to become a leading SaaS company with more than $30 Mn in annual revenue and 2,500 paying clients globally. The company’s main product, Visual Website Optimizer (VWO), offers A/B testing and conversion rate optimisation solutions.
Under his leadership, Wingify remained bootstrapped and expanded to over 300 employees across India before its recent acquisition.
In April 2023, Chopra launched Nintee, an AI-focussed venture backed by Peak XV Partners. The startup initially aimed at helping people build better habits using AI and later pivoted to explore education-related ideas.
The venture was wrapped up in April 2024, with the majority of funding returned to investors. Since then, Chopra has been heading Turing’s Dream, running a six-week AI residency programme for techies in Bengaluru.
