Online learning platform Seekho has raised $8 Mn in its Series A funding round led by Lightspeed. Existing investor Elevation Capital also participated in the round, the startup’s founder and CEO Rohit Choudhary said in a LinkedIn post.

This comes months after it was reported that the startup was raising a $8 Mn to $10 Mn funding round at a valuation of $45 Mn. At the time, it was reported that the investors were eyeing to acquire a 20% stake in the startup.

Founded in 2020 by Choudhary, Keertay Agarwal, and Yash Banwani, Seekho aims to help individuals acquire new skills and knowledge. It provides a range of short learning videos across categories like parenting, share market, Instagram, finance, personal development, among others.

It offers monthly and annual subscriptions, starting at INR 149 per month. Without subscription, users can see only a few videos with advertisements.

Seekho’s app is available on iOS and Android. The startup competes with Unacademy, Coursera, edX, and Udemy.

The funding round comes at a time when the Indian edtech space is in shambles, with BYJU’S, once the poster child of this ecosystem, currently undergoing insolvency proceedings. Earlier this month, it was also reported that Unacademy was in talks with Allen for an acquisition. However, cofounder Gaurav Munjal denied this.

Excluding Physics Wallah and Bhanzu, the Indian edtech industry has largely seen only small ticket investments this year. For instance, at the start of this year, UPSC test prep platform SuperKalam secured $2 Mn (INR 16.6 Cr) in a seed funding round.

Kreedo Early Childhood Solutions, a startup that offers transformation solutions for early learning in schools, also recently raised INR 10 Cr ($1.2 Mn) in debt funding from Recur Club.

Meanwhile, in early December, Britannica Education, known for its encyclopedias, also launched 12 digital learning solutions in India that will cater to teachers, students, and schools, in hopes of reviving the spirit of the Indian edtech market.
