Treebo cofounder Rahul Chaudhary, who joined venture capital fund Matrix Partners India as a venture partner last year, has exited the Bengaluru-based VC firm to launch his own venture.

Although exact details of Chaudhary’s new startup are unknown, he is expected to launch his new venture soon, as per an Entrackr report.

Chaudhary’s Linkedin profile has not been updated with details of the new venture.

Inc42 has reached out to Chaudhary for a clarification on his exit from Matrix and his new venture. The story will be updated if and when we receive a response.

Chaudhary had taken the role of venture partner at Matrix India in February last year, soon after exiting Treebo. Matrix Partners is one of the early backers of ride-hailing giant Ola, digital payments startup Razorpay, and short-video player Dailyhunt, among others.

During his relatively short tenure, Chaudhary looked at early-stage investments, particularly seed to Series A stages.

During his stint, the VC firm launched a new $450 Mn fund, and later increased its target corpus to $525 Mn. The new fund has invested in a string of startups including Neysa, Scapia, InPrime, Ola Krutrim, Aampe, Atomic Work, Wootz.work, Stable Money among others

Prior to joining Matrix Partners, Chaudhary was one of the cofounders of budget hospitality chain Treebo Hotels. He continues to be a board member of Treebo Hotels.

While Chaudhary is not a fund manager with a long track record, he joins a long list of fund managers and partners who have left VC firms in 2024.

A case in point is Piyush Gupta who quit Peak XV in April to launch a secondary-focused fund. The same month, Lightspeed saw the exit of venture partners Vaibhav Agrawal and Abhishek Nag.

In April, Sameer Brij Verma stepped down as managing director of Nexus Venture Partners in March to launch a multi-stage fund.

Last year, the likes of Orios, Lightbox, Rebright Partners and Together Fund also saw partner-level exits amid a slowdown in investments.
