Amid the Indian government stepping up efforts to tackle the sudden rise of deepfake videos, MK Ventures’ founder Madhusudan Kela is the latest to fall prey to the growing menace.

In a social media post on X, Kela said that a fake video is being circulated across several social media platforms, where he is seen offering hefty returns.

“Please note that I have not made any such claims or promises and I do not support these communications. I am in the process of taking legal action for the same. Request you all to not invest basis such video and kindly report the video and not to forward or share it further,” he said.

Seeking intervention from regulatory bodies, Kela has also tagged SEBI, BSE, NSE and Mumbai Police in the post.

Cases of AI-generated fake videos have been on the rise and troublesome recently.

The severity of such deepfakes came to light after actor Rashmika Mandhana raised an alarm about a video being circulated across social media with her face superimposed on it.

Following this, in November last year, the government asked social media platforms to rework on their terms and conditions in line with the IT Rules. As per the latest framework, the users will be forbidden from engaging in 11 types of content, including deepfakes, that harm users.

Back then, MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “Platforms have agreed that within the next 7 days, they will ensure that all terms and contracts with users expressly forbid them from engaging in the 11 types of content laid out in the IT Rules.”

To combat such cases, the Maharashtra Congress also sought the establishment of a government panel to formulate a legal and regulatory framework to curb deepfakes.

In another such instance, according to media reports, as part of the Delhi Assembly Elections campaign, BJP had allegedly circulated deepfake videos where the leading party member Manoj Tiwari was seen questioning Aam Aadmi Party’s claims of setting up 500 schools and installing 15 Lakh CCTVs in the national capital.
