Now, Bengaluru Metro & Bus Commuters Can Buy Tickets Via Namma Yatri, Tummoc Apps

Bengaluru commuters will soon be able to book their metro and bus tickets through mobility apps Namma Yatri and Tummoc.

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) have given their data access to Namma Yatri and Tummoc through general transit feed specification (GTFS) open data format. This will allow the apps to access information such as routes, schedules and associated geographic data for metro and bus bookings. 

Tummoc has already made the feature live on their platform where users can book metro and bus tickets together and plan their journey. Tummoc’s cofounder and chief marketing officer Monalisha Thakur said that the feature was made live yesterday (On June 10). 

However, it is not clear whether Namma Yatri has made the new feature live on its platform. 

Inc42 has sent queries to Namma Yatri for comments on the development. The story will be updated based on the responses. 

Founded in 2022, Namma Yatri was launched by Juspay in partnership with Nandan Nilekani’s BECKN Foundation. The ride-hailing platform is one of the early entrants to introduce the zero-commission model. The users can book autos and cabs on the app which is built on the ONDC network. 

Tummoc was launched in 2016 by Hiranmay Mallick, Thakur and Narayan Mishra which offers multimodal journey planning and ticketing services where users can buy bus tickets, metro rail tickets and last mile connectivity together on a single platform. 

The new feature launch was part of the Enroute Challenge led by the government of Karnataka in tandem with  Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, WRI India, and Villgro. Namma Yatri and Tummoc had won the challenge under which the startups will now launch their new feature. 

“These apps integrate multiple modes of transport from metro and BMTC buses to autos and cabs, making it easier for commuters to plan their entire trip from first mile to last. No more app-hopping, just one interface to discover, book and pay,” wrote Priyank Kharge, minister for IT and BT, Karnataka on X. 

“Today, less than 50% of trips in Bengaluru happen via public transport. Our goal is to take this to 70% by 2030 by doubling down on smart and sustainable mobility,” he added. 

In a separate development, BMRCL also inaugurated the booking of QR tickets integrating with the ONDC platform. This will allow commuters to book metro tickets through nine online applications like EaseMyTrip, One Ticket, Rapido and RedBus among others. 

The development comes at a time when Namma Yatri is planning to expand its footprint in six more cities in the country while Tummoc joined the ONDC network to offer DTC bus and Delhi Metro booking to its users.
