Namma Yatri To Expand Services To Five-Six Cities

Zero commission ride hailing service Namma Yatri is planning to scale with launches in five to six new cities in the next quarter.

Around 5 Lakh driver partners on the Namma Yatri app have earned INR 1,100 Cr since inception, as per its official statement.

“To date, drivers have completed over 7 Cr trips, earning more than INR 1,100 Cr without any commissions,” the statement said.

Under public transport integration, features such as bus tracking and multimodal transport planning are also under development with live tracking expected by the first quarter of 2025.

The open network approach of Namma Yatri is projected to drive INR 51,000 Cr to INR 67,000 Cr in additional annual economic activity, as per its statement. Further, the model can also boost GST revenues by INR 1,000 Cr annually, it added.

“By scaling the zero-commission model on an open network and integrating public transport, we aim to create a future-ready and inclusive mobility ecosystem that benefits everyone,” said Shan M S, chief operating officer (COO), Namma Yatri.

It is pertinent to note that a white paper released by Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) highlighted that zero commission models provide drives fair working conditions.

“Unlike commission-based systems, where income is unpredictable due to dynamic pricing and high deductions, zero-commission SaaS platforms empower drivers to manage their earnings with more certainty and autonomy,” the report said.

Founded in 2022, Namma Yatri was launched by Juspay in partnership with Nandan Nilekani’s BECKN Foundation and backed by Bengaluru’s Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU).

The mobility app’s auto-hailing services were first launched in Bengaluru and has since expanded to cities across India – including Kochi, Mysuru and Tumakuru. In Kolkata, it was introduced as Yatri Saathi and also facilitates metro bookings on its platform in Chennai.

In July, Namma Yatri raised INR 92 Cr (around $11 Mn) in a pre-Series A funding round, which saw participation from investors such as Blume Ventures, Antler and Google, among others.
