Meet The 10 Startups Selected To Pitch Their Innovations On Google’s Demo Day Asia

Google has announced the names of 10 startups from 10 countries selected for Demo Day Asia, an international startup pitching event hosted by Google for Entrepreneurs, which will take place in Shanghai on September 20, 2018. Bengaluru-based SigTuple has been selected from India, among the selected startups.

The Google Demo Day, being organised for the first time, will provide a crash course to selected early stage startups and provide them mentoring to help sharpen their pitch, which will later be delivered to venture capitalists and other investors from Google’s entrepreneurship network.

The startups, selected from India, Indonesia, Sydney, Japan, Pakistan, China, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Korea, are working across sectors such as agriculture, entertainment, healthcare. On Demo Day Asia, they will pitch to a panel of distinguished investors from the Google for Entrepreneurs network, China-based VC firm Sequoia Capital, and Venturra Capital.

The chosen startups will receive funding from investors and up to $100K credits on Google cloud for the startups’ programme, with access to its infrastructure and tools. Under the programme, Google provides early-stage startups with access to the community of entrepreneurs, training, and cloud credits as they build and scale their businesses.

Google Demo Day Asia: Startups That Made The Cut

SigTuple: India-based SigTuple was founded in 2015 by Tathagato Rai Dastidar, Rohit Kumar Pandey and Apurv Anand. The startup has created a data-driven, machine learning and cloud-based solution for detection of abnormalities and trends in medical data that helps in the diagnosis of various diseases. The startup has recently raised $19 Mn in a Series B funding round led by Accel Partners and IDG Ventures.

DycodeX: Indonesia-based DycodeX was founded in 2014. It specialises in developing Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions. The startup has announced to present its latest developed SMARTernak – an IoT-based smart cattle-farming solution technology that helps cattle-farmers monitor the well-being and location of their herd –at the Demo Day.

FreightExchange: Sydney-based FreightExchange was founded in 2014 by Cate Hull and Martyn Hann. Its solution provides a simple, automated way for carriers to connect with shippers allowing people to manage freight services. The startup claims that Its digital platform manages all aspects of booking and dispatch process of carriers and shippers.

GITAI: Japan-based GITAI was founded in 2016 by Sho Nakanose. It has built a humanoid telepresence robot-like “Avatar” for science experiments in space stations and moon-based development. GITAI’s Avatar robot is remotely controlled by humans with VR HMD, motion capture suit and haptic glove, enabling their operators to see, hear, feel and interact freely in a remote environment in real time via standard wireless networks.

Marham: Founded in 2015 by Ehsan Imam, Pakistan-based healthtech startup Marham helps users connect with health practitioners, doctors for various medical services.

Miotech: Founded in 2016 by Jason Tu, China-based MioTech is an AI-based platform that empowers financial institutions to better manage and draw insights on their data. It is headquartered in Shanghai.

OneStockHome: Bangkok-based OneStockHome was founded in 2009 by Anawach Kimhasawad. It is an ecommerce platform for building materials in Thailand. The platform offers a seamless shopping experience for users, offering them the best products at the lowest cost.

Origami Labs: Hong Kong-based Origami Labs was founded in 2011 by Emile Chan, Marcus Leung-Shea and Johan Wong. It makes smart rings that allow people to hear and send text messages without taking out their phones.

SkyMagic: Founded in 2015, Singapore-based SkyMagic offers clients the very best in autonomously flown, swarm performance drones. Drawing on years of experience in the live entertainment market, its agile team delivers a full turnkey service to ensure quality and excellence throughout a project.
