SUMMARY

Speaking at the Mumbai Tech Week 2025, Fadnavis said that Maharashtra's first M-Hub is almost complete

This incubator aims at creating affordable space for startups in the Navi Mumbai region

Besides, it aims to position Maharashtra in the race with Bengaluru and Hyderabad

To establish itself as the tech hub of the country, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the state is planning to launch its first incubator “M-Hub” to support startups.

Speaking at the Mumbai Tech Week 2025, Fadnavis said, “Our first M-Hub is almost complete. It will be a sort of incubator where we’ll incubate new startups.”

This incubator aims at creating affordable space for startups in the Navi Mumbai region and matches the pace with other states including Bengaluru and Hyderabad, he added.

Fadnavis also mentioned that Maharashtra has surpassed Bengaluru and Hyderabad to be the new startup capital in terms of funding, citing a report by Startup India.

As per Inc42’s report, Mumbai’s startup funding soared to $3.7 Bn in 2024, up 154% from $1.5 Bn in the previous year. The city also outpaced Bengaluru in median ticket sizes, up 15% YoY to $3.4 Mn

Furthermore, the chief minister highlighted that the state government needs to work more on policy making to cater to the dynamic nature of business. He also mentioned that the state’s cyber security headquarters at Navi Mumbai is well made to tackle rising cyber crimes.

Earlier this week, Fadnavis said that Maharashtra is aiming to become the AI capital of India over the next four to five years. The state is also working on a new AI policy. It is pertinent to note that Maharashtra currently accounts for 60% of India’s data centre capacity.

He also mentioned that the state is planning to grow its power generation capacity to 75 GW by 2030 from 45 GW currently.

Not just this, many global giants are also mulling to put their bets on Maharashtra. For instance, American investment company Blackstone recently inked an agreement with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC)  to invest $3 Bn (around INR 26,000 Cr) to develop data centres in the state.

Additionally, it is also infusing an additional $3 Bn into infrastructure assets such as data centres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Similarly, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is mulling to invest $8.3 Bn in cloud infrastructure across Maharashtra to further expand its cloud capacity in India.
