Deeptech manufacturing startup Leumas has raised $2.2 Mn (around INR 19 Cr) in a seed funding round led by Capital 2B, with participation from Capital-A and Anicut Capital.

The Bengaluru-based startup plans to use the fresh capital to strengthen its research and development as well as expand its modular manufacturing infrastructure.

Founded in 2016 by Subhajit Biswas and Nitesh K, Leumas builds software-driven robotic factories tailored for the wellness and pharmaceutical sectors.

The company offers both on-demand manufacturing and dedicated production suites, allowing brands to access flexible, modular, and intelligent production lines without owning or managing traditional factory setups.

“Pharma and wellness brands today need more than just capacity. They need agility, traceability, and the ability to scale without being restricted by outdated infrastructure,” Leumas cofounders said in a joint statement.

In 2023, Leumas reportedly raised INR 7 Cr in its pre-seed funding round. To date, it claims to have raised a total of $3.12 Mn.

It is looking to tap into a $100 Bn opportunity by offering factory-as-a-service and on-demand manufacturing models for wellness and pharma brands.

According to a ResearchAndMarkets’ report, the pharmaceutical contract manufacturing market was valued at $129.19 Bn in 2024, and is projected to reach $224.51 Bn by 2030.

This growth is driven by rising demand for personalised medicine, targeted therapies and advanced wellness products, segments that require agility and modular scale, which traditional factory models often struggle to meet.

Meanwhile, the global push for reshoring and evolving geopolitical dynamics are accelerating demand for distributed, capital-efficient manufacturing infrastructure.

Some of the startups which operate in the pharmaceutical contract manufacturing segment include ASPO Pharmaceuticals LLP, ASPO Pharmaceuticals Baddi, Janus Biotech and Innovexia Lifesciences, among others.
