Laptop Maker Primebook Bags $2 Mn From Inflection Point Ventures, Others

Laptop maker Primebook has secured Pre-Series A funding of $2 Mn (around INR 17 Cr) in a mix of equity and debt infusion.

The round saw participation from Inflection Point Ventures, Auxano Capital and nexG Devices, along with high net worth individual (HNI) investors, including EaseMyTrip cofounder Rikant Pittie and Bhavesh Gupta, former president and chief operating officer at Paytm. 

The startup plans to use the fresh capital to boost its research and development areas as well as product innovation.

Further, the startup is also eyeing to expand institutional sales channels, while also enhancing after sales service infrastructure.

“This investment enables us to put more resources toward product development, scale our operations, and reach millions more households in India. Thanks to our proprietary blend of affordable innovation and advanced technology, Primebook is on its way to becoming the preferred brand for students, professionals, and families,” said Chitranshu Mahant, cofounder and chief executive of Primebook.

Founded in 2018 by Mahant and Aman Verma, Primebook entered the market as a made-in-India, cost-effective laptop brand suitable for students and learners for all ages and light users of laptops. The founders also launched PrimeOS, an Android OS for PCs, to make a laptop that efficiently serves students’ needs.

The startup previously raised INR 8.5 Cr in equity and INR 8 Cr in debt from a clutch of investors, including INR 75 Lakh from Shark Tank India (Season 2). 

Between June 2023 and 2024, the company sold more than 35K laptops through its website and major online marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart, priced in the range of INR 11,000 -16,990.

The development comes at a time when the consumer electronics sector broadly has been gaining attention in the startup ecosystem, betting on the projection of the homegrown electronics manufacturing services sector to become a $80 Bn market opportunity by 2027, based on EY research data. 

In July last year, Taiwanese tech giant Acer revealed its plans to expand its consumer electronics offerings in India by launching over 90 stores this year.

Following that, in January, Chinese consumer electronics major Lenovo was set to double the production of its devices in India in the ongoing fiscal year.

Meanwhile, electronics manufacturer Dixon Technologies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a laptops and personal computers (PCs) manufacturing facility near Chennai with a total investment of INR 1,000 Cr, earlier this month.
