Junglee Games Parent Flutter Sheds 350 Jobs In Post-RMG Ban Recast

Flutter Entertainment-owned Junglee Games has laid off 350 employees across its Delhi and Bengaluru offices. 

The company plans to redeploy its existing manpower of roughly 600 people as part of its restructuring exercise for India. It also plans to shift to a free-to-play model, departing from its previously high-growth real-money format. 

The retained employees will be given roles at Flutter’s Hyderabad-based GCC (global capability centre) or will be moved to support the free-to-play model. Junglee Games is exploring ways to monetise their existing games without a cash-in or cash-out concept.

“We have had to make the difficult decision to reduce our Junglee Games headcount in some areas, as we will now only offer Free to Play content while we assess our medium-term options in the market,” Flutter spokesperson said in a statement. Storyboard 18 was the first to break the news. 

The current layoffs come months after the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which has put a blanket ban over online real money gaming (RMG) operations in India. The bill got the cabinet assent on August 20 and was passed by Parliament in the next few days. 

Junglee Games, which operated Junglee Rummy, discontinued its RMG operations after the ban was imposed. At the time, the company said that the bill occurred within an “exceptionally short timeframe” and without consultation with industry stakeholders to consider the significant adverse consequences of this action.

Junglee Games was founded by Ankush Gera in 2012 and was acquired by Flutter in 2021.

Impact On Financials 

According to Flutter Entertainment Inc’s Q3 2025 results, the NYSE-listed company has incurred an impairment charge of $556 Mn (about INR 5,000 Cr) due to the impact of the online gaming act, 2025 in India. 

Flutter’s bottomline took a major hit too. The net loss for the September quarter ballooned almost seven times to $789 from $114 a year back. The company, however, succeeded in securing a 7% rise in topline to $1.6 Bn from $1.5 Bn. 

The impact of the RMG ban in India is clearly seen in Flutter’s segment-wise business as well. The company’s revenue for the September quarter from its Asia Pacific business fell 12% to $363 Mn from $413 Mn in Q3 2024. Its Asia Pacific revenue includes its sportsbet operations in India. 

The ban on RMG not only dealt a major blow to the financials of other players in the industry, it has also led to large-scale job cuts. This month, Gameskraft laid off 280 employees, taking the total number to 400 since the ban, while Games 24×7 cut 500 jobs in September and MPL fired 60% of its employees.

The overnight ban on RMG operations instantly brought the industry in India to its knees. All the major players, including WinZO, Dream11 and Zupee shut their RMG offerings overnight. While some of them pivoted to other business models such as microdrama and fintech, most of the big players shifted their base to overseas markets like the US and the Middle East.
