Jio Platforms, AMD, Cisco & Nokia Join Hands To Launch AI Platform For Telcos

SUMMARY

The new “solutions-oriented” platform will integrate AI and automation into every layer of telecom network operations

While AMD will provide GPUs and Jio will serve as first customer, Nokia and Cisco will bring their expertise in networking and other areas to the table

The AI platform will be LLM-agnostic and will also leverage open APIs to optimise the functionality and capabilities of telecom networks

Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has partnered with chipmaker AMD and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) Nokia and Cisco to build an open-source AI platform for telcos.

Announcing the partnership at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2025 in Spain’s Barcelona, Cisco said that the “solutions-oriented” platform will integrate AI and automation into every layer of telecom network operations.

With JPL as its first customer, the upcoming platform will look to create a replicable reference architecture and deployable solution for other telcos globally. While AMD will provide graphic processing units (GPU), Nokia and Cisco will bring their expertise in networking and other areas to the table.

Reliance Jio’s group CEO Mathew Oommen said that the new AI platform will “transform” JPL’s telecom network into a self-optimising and customer-aware ecosystem.

“By harnessing agentic AI across all telco layers, we are building a multimodal, multidomain orchestrated workflow platform that redefines efficiency, intelligence, and security for the telecom industry… This initiative goes beyond automation—it’s about enabling AI-driven, autonomous networks that adapt in real time, enhance user experiences, and create new service and revenue opportunities across the digital ecosystem,” Oommen said.

The US-based giant said that the upcoming offering will be large language model (LLM)-agnostic, and will also utilise open APIs to optimise its functionality and capabilities. LLM-agnostic architecture refers to a system that allows the integration of multiple LLMs from various providers.

In the statement, Cisco also noted that the AI model will leverage agentic AIs, LLMs, small language models (SLMs), and non-GenAI machine learning techniques to enable “end-to-end intelligence” for network management and operations.

The company said that the yet-to-be-launched platform will enhance network security and efficiency while reducing the total cost of ownership for telecom companies. This, as per Cisco, would be done by creating a new central intelligence layer for telecom and digital services across domains including radio access network (RAN), routing, AI data centre, security and telecom.

“By leveraging our broad portfolio of high-performance CPUs, GPUs, and adaptive computing solutions, service providers will be able to create more secure, efficient, and scalable networks. Together we can bring the transformational benefits of AI to both operators and users and enable innovative services that will shape the future of communications and connectivity,” said AMD CEO Lisa Su.

Meanwhile, IT services firm Tech Mahindra has also announced a new LLM for telcos to help them leverage AI for enhancing performance and operations.

The development comes at a time when Jio has aggressively fueled its AI play. Just days ago, Jio Infocomm’s chairman Akash Ambani said that the company is building a cloud-based PC, with no hardware, which will allow users to deploy compute-intensive AI applications.

Last month, JPL also announced a partnership with the US-based data streaming company Confluent to drive the development of real time and GenAI use cases in India.
